I am trying to write a Haiku for every day of this month. I wrote Summer Birds on the first day, yesterday I wrote:
Leaf mulch and bare bark.
Faith went the way of Winter
without Spring for hope.
and today I have:
You’re my thunder dusk
following heat clogged daylight.
I listen for you.
I find writing haikus a little bizarre. Why?
I don’t actually know if I like them…
Haikus never feel as if they hold enough when I read them of write them. I can find some crackers and think “wow! I really like that!” But it remains the same for the vast majority of haikus, I simply feel that they don’t suit me.
So I’m trying to write one every day for a month to see if my opinion changes.
How about yourselves? Are there any poetic or prosaic forms that simply stick in your pen? I would be interested to hear if anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation.

I really like the first one. I can feel frost in the air. I think your Haiku is very good, though I’m no expert, I know when the sounds of the words flow easily and paint a picture or emote a feeling for me.
Writing Haiku is very new to me. It’s only been a couple of months. I started after a fellow blogger provided excellent and detailed instructions. I never liked Haiku before because I just didn’t understand it. I’m not really much into poetry of any style. Yet I continue to dabble in Haiku because to me it feels very easy. Sometimes it only takes minutes to complete one, and voila I have a completed piece of art. Talk about instant gratification. I don’t know if that’s a real good reason to write. But for me writing has generally come easy or not at all. I plan to go back to my novel for NaNoWriMo this fall and maybe I will find the writing of it easier?
I know what you mean about instant gratification; I write Flash Fiction for the same reason. I always find that my novels stagnant and that I have to give myself a big kick to get on and write them, whereas with Flash Fiction I get a completed piece within half and hour or so.
I’ve only written a few flash fiction pieces, but I get what you mean. I like to do flash that must be completed in 100 words.
All the best with your challenge. I’ve never really been in to haiku. Looking forward to reading what you come up with.
Thank you, I’m going to try and keep posting the rest of my stuff like flash-fiction and headquarters since I don’t really want to just publish haikus.
