Through The Haze

When the lights dim

everything is shadow cloaked.

Cast again in shades of darkness

we see charcoal smears instead of reality

and the things around us appear to shift.

The cupboard across the room

grows into a monster,

mouth wide and hanger teeth open

to chew the world up

while the sun is not watching.

Those are the nights that require duvets

to hide beneath

until dawn brings itself to break

and the light can keep the shadows at bay.

Daily Prompt: Dim
