Exhausted, your prostate yourself, legs aloft and crooked, chin tilted towards some ceiling corneras if to suggest you were focusedon anything but us.Still, you follow footsteps with a beady eye, wriggle your spine against tile, happiness thumping in rapid, swishing beats. As Lillian shared a lovely doggy snap with us tonight, I thought I’d include a sketch I did last month. I’m currently 9,000 words deep in NaNoWriMo, but when I’m not writing I have a go at improving my drawing skills, which mainly involves many hours of looking, sketching, going ‘well that’s shit”, erasing and trying again.
Since the launch of my poetry collection I’ve been struggling to write much in the way of poetry, so I’ve picked up my sketch pad and pencils instead. The image above was actually from a poem idea that I’ve been swirling around for a few days. The hand is my own, and I used a photo of my hand holding an empty wine glass as well as the very usefully close by real thing (my hand that is) to reference where the fingers bent and how the palm creased in this position. I spent about two and half hours playing around before I decided that this was probably as good as it would get for now. Unlike in the past, I decided not to worry about erasing mistakes as soon as I made them. I misjudged the scale of the glass to start with and had to make it larger a couple of times, and adjust how the fingers were positioned. I left all the original lines in until I was confident that I’d got …
One of my challenges for 2016 was to improve my drawing skills and specifically to improve at drawing people. I’ve decided therefore, that Wednesday shall be the day that I show off all [if any] of the drawing and doodles that I’ve completed during the week. So for today, the first doodle Wednesday, I present today’s attempt at drawing people. I also did a few doodles this week, a hand from the cover of Skulduggery Pleasant Mortal Coil and a rose since it was apparently national rose day the other day. I’m happier with the hand more than the rose since faces and hands are the two things I struggle to draw most.

Since it’s May 4th I thought I would reblog one of my January doodle-a-days. I’m not the biggest star wars fan but I did enjoy going to watch the new film and an afternoon cuddled on the sofa with the fiancée watching the older ones is great fun too. Writing and Works View original post
So I was a bit out on the proportions but since I haven’t drawn in a month and a bit I’m just glad to have something down on paper.
Behold one of the greatest joys of my life, shoes. This was a rough sketch of one of my boots that I tend to wear most days. I was really struggling to draw anything tonight and in the end I kicked off a shoe, deposited on my desk and decided ‘Right. I’m not very good at shoes, I’m going to do something about that.’ That is what I want 2016 to be about for me. Finding my weaknesses and doing something to strengthen myself. I love drawing but I let myself get bogged down in what I can and can’t draw. Therefore, my for this year is to try and push myself in some way each day. A few of you have commented that you really like the idea of this challenge and if you want to join in, even if it’s just for a week or so, feel free add links to your own daily doodles in the comments below. I’d love to pop over and see what you’ve created.
