If We Were Having Coffee

Something just popped in my foot as I was walking downstairs and now it hurts… but I did managed to find the adaptor that I haven’t used in four years but suddenly needed so it wasn’t all bad.

That is pretty much what my day has been like since I woke up. My alarm didn’t go off because I forgot to charge my phone, it was Saturday so it didn’t matter. I had to drive the fiancee to work, but he did make me a cup of tea. Re-drafting almost brought me to tears, but I finished chapter two!

What I’m trying to say is that today has been odd. Very, very odd.

But, all that aside, it’s Saturday and that means it’s time for the Weekend Coffee Share. So what have I been up to since we last spoke? Well let’s see…

I got rejected again. I’ve sent off two submissions in the last fortnight and both of them were met with ‘just not what we’re looking for right now but please do try again.’ I won’t say to much about this because I’m thinking about starting up a weekly, writer feature thing where I talk about how my writing career [non-existent as it is] seems determined to crush me mind, body and soul. Even the stairs are out to get me. [Refer to paragraph one.]

In truth, I’m planning on making the weekly writer feature a positive one. I want it to be about new writers trying to improve and tackling the obstacles that they come across. I want to try and get some stories from writers about their worst rejection experiences and how it impacted on them, and if possible, how it made them better writers. If you have any experiences like that yourself then please let me know. I’d love to have as many people getting involved as possible.

This week has seen me getting back to blogging on a regular basis. I’ve managed to put up a post each day and steadily drowned most of my readers in poetry. Some stuff wasn’t actually meant to go up when it did, I had an argument with scheduling and it won. I still want to do some scheduled posts but I’m starting to realise that scheduling doesn’t work very well when most of your posts are prompt response based.

The front page has also had a bit of a revamp and I changed the about page to a post so I could tack it to the top of the home page without having to use it as the home page. I also created a little section on there for some of my longer pieces of flash fiction and tried to make it look a little more professional.

Tuesday saw the launch of a new poetry anthology! Blaidh’s Tales has started a weekly anthology of poets who all contribute pieces based on a single prompt. This week’s prompt was ‘towers’ and here’s the link to the post with all the poems. Including mine!

Despite getting a rejection, this week has been really good. There has been over five hundred views on the site, which is a lot better than some of the previous weeks, and I’ve managed to write some stuff that I’m pretty happy with. This week also saw me break my previous record for the most new followers in a single day so my little, happy dance has seen a fair bit of action.

That being said, I’m still trying to work out some new methods for promoting this blog. What I want to avoid is pestering readers to like or share my posts over and over again. While I would love for people to share my stories and poems on their own blogs and social media sites, it’s awkward asking people to do that. If you have any experience with this please let me know in the comments below. What do you think about encouraging readers to share your work?

The comments are also there if you just want to stop in and say hi. I love hearing from you so don’t be shy. For now though, I’m off to work on the next chapter of my book. At the moment it’s less than a page long but I’m going to try and work it into something a bit chunkier. ¬†And for those of you who are interested:
