Farm Fresh Birds

No one explained that best before

was subjective at best.

Instead they suggested

that you were lucky to find a man

willing to settle for spoiled produce

so close to the sell by date.

Did it occur to you

the rot might be them?

OH WOW! Wish you could be sitting next to me so you could hear my very OUT LOUD response after reading your post as in OH WOW! OH MY GOSH!
This is just absolutely amazing! I truly think it should be published somewhere….don’t know where. I’m taking it from a very feminist perspective here….don’t know if you meant it that way…but it is really quite an astounding sentiment that you’ve expressed in 44 words here. Will be interesting to see if others read it this way? WOW! LOVED this! Blows me away!

Thank you so much. I wrote it from a very feminist perspective so I’m glad it came across that way. I haven’t had much luck with getting any of my poems published unfortunately and life, work, and study have meant I drifted away for a while but I’ve been slowly starting to work on some bits and bobs with half a mind of writing a collection. Not sure just yet but we’ll see where it goes.

So glad to see you back, Carol! I love the sarcastic pun and the cynical tone of your poem. I too emitted a gasp on first reading – it’s so close to the bone (pun intended). Have you tried submitting to The Emma Press or Peeking Cat Poetry?
