Poems Against Platitudes, No. 4 I tell someone that grief is liquid. It takes the shape of whatever vessel it finds. Sometimes it makes ghosts of the breathing. This is what a haunting is. Living inside the recent past, waiting for reality to shake out of its stupor. Time loses milestones and meaning. Today is the same as yesterday and I know there is absence but I cannot find the edges of it. Impossibility holds the warmth of you makes a mimicry of your voice pretends that nothing is lost. Still, the tears come. The catch in the throat, a door not quite closed, this grief leaks out.
